Ocala-area high school students injured by car on their way to the bus stop
Two sisters, both students at North Marion High School, were injured by a teenage driver as they walked to their bus stop on Thursday, November 1. The two girls were walking alongside Northwest 55th Street at around 6:30 a.m. when the driver of a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer struck one of the sisters, who was then pushed into the other girl.
Both sisters were transported to Shands Hospital in Gainesville with non-life threatening issues, according to authorities.
A Florida Highway Patrol Trooper was quoted saying that the road was very dark at the time of the accident, and that the driver of the Chevy Blazer claimed that she didn’t even see the girls until she had already hit them. Both sisters were wearing dark clothing and carrying dark backpacks.
Incidents such as these remind us that accidents involving pedestrians are all too common. To avoid such an accident, pedestrians should wear bright clothing when walking alongside roads, and utilize sidewalks and crosswalks at all times (if possible). If a street does not have a sidewalk, chances are, it is unsuitable for pedestrian traffic. Pedestrians should also avoid walking along roads in the early and late hours of the day, when visibility is at its lowest.
If an accident occurs, be sure to contact a personal injury attorney immediately. A personal injury lawyer could help you gain recovery for lost wages, pain and suffering, medical bills, and other damages.
